- Audit of existing malaria control programs.
- Malaria risk analysis and needs assessment.
- Planning, design and implementation of integrated malaria and vector control programs at both a regional, workplace and community level.
- Collection and analysis of relevant scientific baseline data to monitor program impacts; including
- Parasite prevalence surveys.
- Entomological surveys.
- Knowledge, attitude, practices and behaviour surveys.
- Provide technical expertise (personnel) and systems to support integrated malaria vector control programmes.
- Provide integrated malaria and vector control training to build capacity and promote sustainable regional, workplace and community programs. Training in the following malaria control intervention methods is offered.
- Indoor residual spraying (IRS)..
- Larvaciding.
- Fogging “Space spraying”.
- Insecticide treated bed nets (ITN’s).
- Environmental management/manipulation.
- Provide microscopy training to improve onsite malaria diagnosis.
- Provide and implement malaria information systems to allow reporting on malaria and vector outcomes and impacts as part of monitoring and evaluation programs.
- Advise on malaria information, education and communication (IEC) campaigns and provide the relevant IEC materials.
- Advise on and implement a suitable insecticide rotation schedule to prevent and manage possible insecticide resistance.
- Support liaison and networking with other role player’s e.g. relevant government departments and non-governmental organizations.
- Advise on and develop public-private partnerships.
- Review of medical services:
- Malaria case detection sheets
- Malaria case reporting.
- Review malaria diagnostic and case management procedures.
- Review current awareness and education campaigns.
- Advise on the most appropriate insecticide based on entomological information.
- Recommend, source and supply of the following WHO and WHOPES approved products:
- Insecticide for indoor residual spraying (IRS).
- Insecticide for larvaciding.
- Insecticide for fogging “space spraying”
- Compression sprayers.
- Foggers.
- Long lasting insecticide treated bed nets (LLITN’s).
- Personal protection equipment (PPE) for malaria control spray operators.
- Rapid diagnostic test kits (RDT’s) for malaria diagnosis.
- Mosquito repellents.
- Insecticide impregnated clothing.
